Disaster Relief

We have all felt our hearts compelled to help whenever there is a major disaster around the world.  Responding to people's desire to go as well as give, we conduct workshops to help people become helpful assistants in major disasters.  From the proper attitude, to learning the vocabulary of disaster scenarios, to understanding rescue priorities, attendees learn how to elevate themselves into becoming truly helpful in relief situations.   The attendees also find out how they can be a part of the International Disaster Response Network (IDRN) that is activated and mobilized when disasters happen around the world.

Holistic Community Development Training

$500 billion has gone into humanitarian and development aid to Africa in the last 60 years with virtually no change in the state of poverty, hunger and disease.  As a results NGO's are taking taking a hard look at what has gone wrong.  Some of the new emerging thinking is encapsulated in our training, which we've entitled Asset Based Community Development (ABCD), in which we ask a fundamentally different question from the past.  Rather than posing the question, "What are your needs?" we ask "What do you have?"  as in what assets or skills do you have that can turn this situation around.   This triggers a completely different outlook that promotes self-sustainability instead of dependence.  And it changes the role of the aid worker into becoming a catalyst for creative thinking instead of scrambling to fulfill needs.  This training workshop equips anyone who wishes to engage in community development in a whole new different way.
